Forum Title: Will nylon really become extinct within two years?
Hi, Several carpet retailers in Bucks Co PA have told me that nylon carpet will become extinct with the next two years, and ALL carpet will be Smartstand Triexta, PET Polyester, or a combination of both. Its is true? Will nylon carpet really be gone in two years??

I seriously doubt that, and have not heard anything of the sort...and I think I would have heard it ringing through the halls of the entire industry. Go somewhere else to shop for floorcovering, they are not trustworthy and are trying to sell you what they want you to have.

On second thought, the way this industry has been shooting itself in the foot for the past couple decades, anything is possible. But, I do believe I would have heard something. That's a pretty big deal for us.

Nylon has been around since WW-2. It was used in the parachutes during the war. When I got into the flooring business in 1964 Dupont 501 nylon was the big gun. I don't see nylon disappearing any time soon. It has proven itself for 50 years, and it still is second only to wool as a premier fiber for carpet. Just my two cents worth. Dick Johnson
